A National Holiday

Today has the makings of being a pretty good day.  For starters, our two oldest rascals start school, first day of kindergarten for the middle child.  BelleoftheBall has them dolled up and took plenty of pictures.  She is hot and the love of my life.

Second, my boss is leaving early today because...it is a National Holiday, the first day of the NFL regular season.  Thus compounding the need to celebrate.

Allow me now to make some bold NFL predictions:
-Tampa Bay will be 11-5 and win the NFC South.
-New Orleans, the darling of the NFL will be 9-7, disappointing all of the paid analysts.
-My inaugural season in Fantasy Football will be a "learning experience".
-The NFC West will be tight and the winner will be crowned in week 17.
-Matt Leinart will go to the Pro-Bowl.
-Larry Johnson and the Chiefs will not go 8-8, nor will they sneak into the playoffs.
-The Cubs will get hot and win the World Series...sorry wrong sport but you can see where my loyalties lie.

So, by way of review:
BelleoftheBall is hot
2 out of 3 now in school
NFL Starts
Boss out early

Life is finally looking up again...

Dont Read Burt Prelutsky for Breakfast

Every morning I check my favorite internet sites for articles, news, and updates.  WND is certainly one of my favorites, but unfortunately I stumbled upon this Burt Prelutsky piece, who apparently has nothing else to talk about so he continues to pile on Michael Vick:
http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=57477

He is trying to debunk any effort to defend Michael Vick's actions, but in doing so makes some fairly ridiculous and dishonest remarks.  His first argument read like this:
There are those who want the rest of us to get over our outrage and be willing to give Vick another chance because we're all mere mortals, after all, and humans make mistakes. This argument falls apart as soon as you acknowledge that wearing brown shoes with a black suit is a mistake; guessing incorrectly on a true-or-false test is a mistake; torturing and killing dogs over and over again isn't a mistake or an error in judgment.

Now, I agree with him in the sense that "we're all mere mortals" is not really a legitimate defense.  But it was this statement that really drove me crazy and revealed the intellectual shallowness of Burt:
It's a felony and, I'd venture, a sin.

This provoked such frustration with those who I assume consider themselves conservative...so I rattled off this email, granted it was a bit much and over the top:
Under which book?  The Bible considers dogs to be what they really are...at best personal property or at the worst filthy bottom feeders.  How could you make the assertion that dog fighting is a sin?  Under what religious code?  Honestly, I expect so much more from WND on this subject but what I keep reading is bleeding heart liberal bull crap.  Do you really want your federal government investigating dog fighting?  Are you even close to being a conservative?  And this your argument that it is a felony...nonsense.  Have you ever heard of Jim Crow laws...they sure were good laws.  What about when your negro slave ran away...felony.  What about buying and selling alcohol in the 1920's...another great law?  You are intellectually dishonest and Biblically illiterate.

To my shock, Burt responded to me, well to my email actually:
And a good morning to you, too.

Now, that is not really a response, as much as it is an attempt to pacify me.  Why didn't he just take a few moments to respond to my questions?  Probably because he can't.

The argument that something is wrong because it is illegal is not a legitimate argument, because God knows we have had some very illegitimate laws, as I referenced in my email.

As far as dog fighting is concerned, the discussion of it's illegality is not even on the table as long as abortion of human life remains legal, and please do not act as if God has revealed that dog fighting is a sin.

As a conservative, I am scared to know that our federal tax dollars are going for the pursuit of dog fighters, and I am equally scared that more conservative thinkers are not stepping up to say something about it.

Thank you Townhall for giving me a conservative forum to share these thoughts.
